Old Baldy After Dark  – A Halloween Adventure at Old Baldy

This Halloween, prepare for a spine-chilling experience at one of North Carolina's oldest and most mysterious landmarks—Old Baldy! Join us for our After Dark Lighthouse Climb on October 24th, 25th, 30th, and 31st from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM each night.

Get ready to embark on a thrilling adventure as you ascend the weathered steps of the historic Old Baldy Lighthouse, where the eerie atmosphere of the season takes on a life of its own. The ghosts of the past seem to come alive under the glow of the full moon—do you dare to climb?

In addition to our night climbs during After Dark, we’re adding a whole new set of programming perfect for visitors of all ages to explore, learn, and celebrate Bald Head Island’s history. This includes:

The Rat Race Scavenger Hunt

Explore the museum and lighthouse grounds as you follow clues to track down all eight hidden rats. Complete the hunt and earn a prize; ideal for kids and families who love solving riddles and embarking on mini adventures.

The Island Ledger: A Graveyard Mystery

This year’s expanded graveyard experience features even more historical figures connected to Bald Head Island’s past. Each tombstone holds clues about a real person or object from island history. As you move from one marker to the next, you’ll uncover information and collect letters hidden on the backs of the tombstones. Put the letters in the correct order to reveal a secret code word, and turn it in to claim a prize. It’s a perfect mix of learning, discovery, and Halloween fun.

Lighthouse Legends Storytime - 7:00 PM Each Night

Gather with us at 7 PM for a storytelling session filled with local lore and eerie recollections from Bald Head Island’s past. These tales are rich with history and just spooky enough to spark the imagination—without being too scary for younger guests.
